Prof Inga Crepinko and Prof Hauptman from Zagreb, Croatia were the Cytology pioneers in Eastern Europe. They exemplified European haematologists who pioneered cytopathology, initially of bone marrow and lymph nodes, but subsequently also from other sites. Hence the preference of European Cytopathologists for MGG stain in non gynaecological cytology.
